Amanda DeMarco


Amanda DeMarco is an American writer and translator based in Berlin, translating from French and German. Recent and forthcoming translations include works by Franz Hessel, Gaston de Pawlowski, Byung-Chul Han, and Marcus Steinweg.

She has received grants and fellowships from MacDowell, Yaddo, the city of Berlin, the Fulbright Foundation, PEN and the EU. Her criticism focuses on the works of contemporary writers in translation, and women with controversial legacies such as Can Xue, Christa Wolf. and Susan Sontag. Her writing has appeared, or is due to appear, in the Wall Street Journal, The Times Literary Supplement, The Los Angeles Review of Books and BOMB, among others. Amanda is working on her first book.
